The Cartier Panthére may exude a modern aesthetic, but in fact its design origin is more than a century old after first appearing in 1914 on a watch featuring a pattern of abstract black and white spots made from diamonds and onyx. Three years later it was seen again on a cigarette case gifted by Louis Cartier to Jeane Toussaint (who later became Cartier creative director). The panther figure remained part of the Cartier brand in various guises until the Panthère de Cartier was released in 1983. It quickly became one of Cartier's most successful models, being embraced by the fun-loving 1980s crowd and its popularity soaring into the 90s. It has adorned the wrist of notable characters such as Keith Richards, Piers Brosnan, Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.

This particular Panthère is a "jumbo" (29mm width) reference 1300 in steel, and dates to 1996. The watch is a timeless icon and is an effortlessly elegant option for both men and women. This example is accompanied by its original box, papers (showing purchase at Cartier New Bond Street in 1996), booklets and Cartier service paperwork (dated 2002). It has a very large bracelet that will easily fit the largest of wrist sizes.

This watch is an excellent, clean example and is ready to wear. The dial is in excellent, clean condition, as are the case and bracelet with minimal surface scratching. The glass is free of marks and the watch is working well.
